MISSION STATEMENT

“To continuously raise the innovative standards achieved by the consultancy in the field of multidisciplinary professional planning through successfully completing commissions which:
  • reflect the requirements of clients;
  • respond to the needs of target populations;
  • are appropriate to the particular context;
  • are readily implementable; and
  • achieve optimum returns on investments.”

SETPLAN is committed to make a meaningful contribution to the development of Southern Africa. The success that the consultancy has achieved to date in urban and rural projects is a result of adopting holistic and participative approaches to problem solving and design, and focusing on the realities of the region’s differing and sometimes divergent conditions.

PHILOSOPHY AND PRACTICE

Setplan adopts a philosophy of “people centered” development and an integrated, multi-sectoral approach. Whether our clients are individuals, communities, organisations or governments we ensure that they remain fully involved and in control of the process. This approach ensures:
  • Full involvement and ownership by “end users”
  • Sustainable and integrated development
  • Practical solutions

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION POLICY

SETPLAN is dedicated to “people centred development”. The group has established a policy that it should strive to reflect the broader society that it serves. Its affirmative action policy is based on the principles of:
  • Actively advancing disadvantaged groups by identifying people with potential;
  • Appointment and promotion on potential;
  • Developing individuals’ skills;
  • Capacity building of client communities through projects.

QUALITY CONTROL

Inherent to the corporate structure of SETPLAN (staff and office structuring) is the recognition of the need for:

  • Multi-disciplinary qualifications in addition to town and regional planning. In this regard, staff members of SETPLAN have a variety of graduate and post-graduate qualifications including project management, geology, geographic information system, business management and administration.
  • All principals and professional planners employed by SETPLAN are registered with the South African Council Planners (SACPLAN) and are Corporate Members of the South African Planning Institution (SAPI). As such, we abide by the ethics, rules of conduct and regulations of both these bodies.
  • Continuous interaction between SETPLAN’s specialist personnel to ensure maximum benefit to all offices and projects. All major tasks/projects are evaluated, costed, formulated and edited by as broad a group of our professional staff as is necessary to ensure quality control regarding budgets, programme and report content; and where necessary, outside experts are consulted to ensure the quality of tasks undertaken.
  • Implementation of current and up to date support infrastructure and technologies including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), GPS and IT solutions and products to ensure accurate planning products and quick turn around times.
